Mother’s Day poster - 2026

The Poster was designed by Nadeem Mazen while working As Exhibitions Curator and Projects Coordinator at Yabous Cultural Centre

The poster was inspired by the image of the Palestinian mother, embodying resilience, steadfastness, and a deep sense of belonging. It reflects her ability to nurture life, protect her children, and instill hope and identity in them despite all circumstances.

The design incorporates symbols and visual elements drawn from Palestinian heritage and identity, particularly through the details of the clothing, combining traditional Palestinian embroidery with contemporary patterns. The mother's sleeve features traditional embroidery, while her skirt carries more modern motifs, bringing together cultural heritage and contemporary life.

Birds and doves appear throughout the composition, on the child's shirt, in the yellow bird behind the Title, and in the swarm of birds in the corner of the poster. These elements symbolize freedom and the desire to take flight, contrasting with the reality in which both mother and child are deprived of this freedom. Even the birds appear confined within the limited space of the child's shirt, suggesting that restrictions have reached even the symbols and dreams of freedom.

The embroidery on the mother's Shirt takes the form of girls holding hands, symbolizing solidarity, connection, and unity. The mother and child's gaze is directed upwards, expressing their shared longing for a better horizon and their hope for a future defined by greater freedom, despite the constraints surrounding them.

On the child's Pants, embroidery takes the shape of a tree, symbolizing rootedness, resilience, and a deep connection to the land. Just as a tree anchors itself firmly through its roots, the child grows carrying a strong sense of identity and belonging, holding onto his land and heritage through the values passed down by his mother, generation after generation.

Through these elements, the poster portrays the Palestinian mother as more than a symbol of motherhood. She is home, the first memory, and a source of safety and belonging. She protects her children, nurtures hope, and passes on their identity even in the most difficult circumstances. The shared gaze towards the horizon further reflects their aspiration for a better future, where freedom and life are rights accessible to all.

On Mother's Day, we celebrate all mothers, particularly Palestinian mothers, while also remembering those who have lost their mothers or been deprived of their presence. Motherhood is a meaning that transcends physical presence, living on through memory, longing, and belonging.

We remain hopeful that a better tomorrow will dawn, one in which mothers can live in greater peace and security, with their children close beside them, finding comfort and warmth in the first place they ever knew: their mother's shoulder, embrace, and tenderness.

For a mother is not only the one we know and grow up in the arms of, but also a symbol of homeland and belonging, a place to which we return in search of safety.

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers in Palestine and around the world.
